Wonderful small and intimate hotel with really good facilities and amiable employees who delivered good service. An electric kettle, central heating and an iron available in the guest room. A lovely area, absolutely perfect and nice location next to West Lodge, the rear garden and park.

It is a nice looking hotel in a lovely setting, its set back from the road and parking was good. The breakfast room has windows on 3 sides so while having breakfast you feel as if you are almost sitting in the lovely back garden being surrounded by flowering plants, trees and ponds. It is a good location for driving to other towns and villages. The owners are friendly.
I thought that the room was small and so was the ensuite. We were on the first floor and the stairs were quite narrow and steep. I felt I had to take particular care when using then. We had breakfast there 3 mornings, twice what I asked for was not what I got.

Lovely country hotel. We were made to feel very welcome. Beautiful gardens. We stayed in one of the bedrooms in the stable block at the bottom of the garden which was great. Gorgeous soft towels and good quality toilet paper. Reasonable breakfast. Good service. It was a pity we were only staying one night.

My wife and I stayed for two nights to travel and tour in the region. We thought the best part of the hotel was quiet, location, friendliness and helpfulness of staff, quality of the breakfast. The room was small but adequate.
The only complaint we would have is very minor, but could be remedied, namely, the hotel light that highlighted the hotel shined in our room through light drapes.

The welcome was good and the place was clean. The breakfast was good. I feel, however, this is more a b&b than a hotel and that the rate charged was somewhat high.
Two things marred my stay: - 1 I had driven nearly 300 miles, was tired and looking forward to a nice meal in the hotel, having read so much about their 'wonderful restaurant', and an early night. When I asked about the meal I was informed that the restauraunt would not be catering for anyone that night but that there was a pub two minutes down the road. Accessing the West Lodge's web site a couple of days later, I noted that pre-booking for the restaurant is 'preferrable but not essential'. 2 There were two very bright orange spotlights, attached high in trees, which shone relentlessly into my bedroom making it almost light enough to read without putting on the electric lights. Being so tired I fell asleep at 9pm and was woken by these lights at mid-night and then had the most restless night because of them. When I mentioned this at checkout I was told 'they must have moved' and was told that I should have called the proprietors during the night to let them know. In my opinion it would not have been a welcome call at mid-night (or later) as these lights are at least 15 feet off the ground therefore adjusting them would, possibly, have required the use of ladders etc. I advised the owners to install black-out blinds and that they should spend the night in that room, 7, to experience it for themselves. I hope that they have, at least, done the latter!

Modest in facilities but always clean and comfortable with pleasant breakfast room and garden. Excellent home cooked breakfast. We have stayed a number of times, always in June/July for outdoor music events in the village of buckland nearby. Staff are always personable and friendly.
